A reliable source from the LAC has just phoned me to ask that I inform my readers, genealogists, and others interested in their Canadian families, that the 1921 Canadian Census has already been digitized, and has been ready for release since last Wednesday, 12 June, but it is being held back by the federal government before it is released.
So if you want the census released NOW, it has been suggested that you write the Heritage Minister, The Honourable James Moore, and ask that the 1921 Canadian Census be released now.
Minister Moore’s mailing address is: The Hon. James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage & Official Languages, House of Commons, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A6.
His telephone number is 613-992-9650, and his fax number is 613-992-9868.
He can also be reached online at www.pch.gc.ca/pc-ch/minstr/moore/cntct/index-eng.cfm, or by direct email at james.moore@parl.gc.ca
Remember, there is no postage required for sending snail-mail to Members of Parliament in Canada from within Canada.

Did your informant say why the fed. govt. is holding back the census?
Hi Yvonne,
Yes, they did. However, all that was asked of me today was to let the public know that what is being stated now is for the record, and to clarify any misunderstandings that may have been gleaned from previous news stories which suggested that the census hadn't been digitized, and it was. It was also ready to be released as of last Wednesday, but has been held back by the minister's office. I will be sure to keep you and others informed once news updates become available. Please rest assured that I have been well-served by the LAC before, and I am confident of what was passed on to me today.
Elizabeth
Sent a message to the online link. Let's hope he listens!! Not a lot of faith that he will. SO much for transparency with this federal government!!
I've sent an email to the Honourable Minister this afternoon, Elizabeth. I'll let you know if he or his office replies.
The sooner the better as Parliament is about to break for summer!
I too sent a letter
I just sent an email! Hope it works.
Is other disappointment from Ottawa, isn't it?
I have also sent an e-mail - let's see if there is an intelligent reply!
I sent an email to Minister Moore, plus one to my MP (a Conservative).
A note was sent to the Hon James Moore requesting formal detailed information on the status of the release of the 1921 census data - I suspect they want ensure there are no glitches in the data since it appears to be a large census.
Done via email and shared on 3 Facebook pages with a combined membership of over 2500 people.
His email bounces back an automated notice that he is away until June 24th.
E-mail sent to Minister Moore. Thank you Elizabeth
Emailed Mr. Moore today
I've just emailed Minister Moore.
I, also, have emailed the Hon Mr Moore. Live in the States, but most of my family came from Canada. Am eager to see what I can find in the 1921 Census.
My understanding was that censuses cannot be made public for 100 years? Therefore not available until 2021?
The PM's office responded to my email, and said they had passed the email on to the minister responsible, the Minister of Industry! Am just about to let them know who the "responsible" minister is. The Heritage Minister has not responded.
I've also sent emails to Stephen Harper, James Moore and my local MP Barry Devolin. Only response back so far is from Mr Devolin's office asking me to confirm that I'm a local resident.
The idea that James MORON Moore would be holding back the posting of the 1921 Census enrages me to no end! How dare they stand in the way of a timely transfer of the census records into the hands of an eagerly awaiting public!
Hi! I sent e-mails to Messieurs Harper and Moore on June 18. No reply so far. Also sent copy of my message to my MP, Olivia Chow, asking her to see if she can do something to get these people to release the 1921 census of Canada.
Hi from New Zealand. My great uncle settled in Condor, Alberta in 1906 and I was excited to learn more about him from the 1921 census as his only offspring died as babies, so no relatives to contact in Canada so no release was a great disappoint. My mothers cousin settled in St. Johns NB in 1912. All of us from Inverness Scotland. I have emailed your M.P. James Moore, indicating the disappointment of folks worldwide.
Cheers from NZ, Min Walker
I too emailed requesting and encouraging the 1921 Census release.
J Love.
Thanks for providing really nice information

I'm excited to find some ancestors of mine in the data of the census.
