Nerses Photo Studio at the Niagara Peninsula Branch monthly meeting

Steve Fulton U.E., the Chair of the Niagara Peninsula Branch of the OGS, tells us the Branch will be hosting the Nerses Photo Studio this evening as they talk about photo restoration.

The topics will include photo restoration, storage and handling of old photographs. Please feel free to bring a couple of your photographs along with you to the meeting to either share or get a professional opinion of them from our speaker.

The Niagara Peninsula Branch is using the new streaming software (Adobe Connect) that supports MACs, tablets, PC and other devices.

Niagara Peninsula Branch Supports Canadian Headstones Project

Steve Fulton, the Chair of the Niagara Peninsula Branch of the OGS, tells us that the Niagara Peninsula Branch is making great progress in putting gravestones onto the CanadianHeadstones website.

Currently, they are working on the Fonthill Cemetery. In the spring, they will be looking for people who enjoy taking pictures or people who can get involved from the comfort of their home, and training is available

So if you live in the Niagara Peninsula, or you have information that you would like to share with the people at the Niagara Peninsula Branch,     don’t hesitate to contact them.

War of 1812 Project

Niagara Peninsula Branch of the OGS would like to announce that the deadline for their War of 1812 Project has been extended until September 30, 2012.

In recognition of the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812, the Niagara Peninsula Branch, the members of the Branch is compiling a commemorative book of family stories about Ancestors who fought in or were affected by the War of 1812 (i.e. house burned, claim for losses, provided supplies to the army).

If you have an Ancestor who falls into this category and you would like their story to be included in this book please go to the Branch website www.ogs.on.ca/niagara or contact niagaraogs1812@gmail.com for more instructions. Guidelines are included on www.ogs.on.ca/niagara

The book will be published in 2013.

All submissions must be received on or before midnight September 30, 2012

Canadian Funeral Home Records Online

Steve Fulton, Chairperson of the Niagara Peninsula Branch of the OGS, writes that the Morse & Sons Funeral Home Records Index is now online.

He would like to thanks the volunteers who have spent countless hours working on this project. You can visit their website http://ogs.on.ca/niagara. Please click on the Index Button to do a search.

Finally, he would like to reintroduce the Surname Index on our website as well, and he says you will find it under the Index Button also. Over the next month, the Surname Index will be changed over to work and appear like the Morse & Sons Funeral Home Records Index.

So please visit their website often, as many things will be changing over the next couple of months relating to various indexes.
